Sometimes emergencies happen, and we are available to tend to your pet during normal business hours. If you can, please give us a call to let us know you are on your way in! This will help our veterinary staff prepare in advance so that we can ensure your pet is taken care of immediately upon arrival.

We can be reached at 301-330-2200.

Although we can't be there to help you and your furry family members all hours of the day, there are several emergency hospitals in the area that offer 24-hour ER care. We recommend Veterinary Referral Associates and Blue Pearl Specialty & Emergency Pet Hospital.

Did you know that, according to the American Veterinary Dental Society, 80% of dogs and 70% of cats show signs of oral disease by the age of three? This highlights a very scary truth about poor dental health and pets – a lack of dental care can significantly impact your pet’s quality of life and could even shorten it.

At advanced stages, dental disease can make eating difficult due to mouth pain. Keeping up with the cleanliness of your pet’s mouth and their overall dental health can prevent years of discomfort and lost teeth. As a rule of thumb, we recommend you get your pet’s teeth checked and cleaned once a year.

Proper dental care requires general anesthesia and full mouth radiographs to assess the health of your pet’s teeth and jaw bones. If it’s been a year since your pet’s last dental exam or cleaning, give us a call at (301) 330-2200 today. We’ll turn your pet’s frown upside down!

Preventative or general wellness care means a proactive approach to medicine. Ideally, problems are caught before they become more serious – and more expensive – and it frees you and your pet to spend your time doing what you really want to do: enjoy each other’s company and unconditional love.

At Montgomery Village Animal Hospital, we cherish the opportunity we have to nourish and care for pets over the course of a lifetime. We pamper our puppy and kitten patients, adore our adults, and celebrate our seniors. And because we understand that needs change with age, we tailor our treatment plans to best meet your pets where they are on their journey.

Annual wellness checkups are a crucial part of preventative care. Our nose-to-tail exams give us a good picture of your pet’s overall health and alert us to any changes that might have occurred since their last visit.

We recommend a physical exam at least once per year for adult pets and then every six months for senior pets. If you’ve recently adopted or purchased a pet, then we advise you that you book an appointment for their first examination within the first few weeks of ownership. Younger animals are very vulnerable to illness and this will allow us to make sure they have the vaccinations they need, reassure you of their health, and give us a starting point for their medical records.

Your pet’s comprehensive physical examination will include some or all of the following:

  • Complete vital signs: weight, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature
  • Eyes, ears, and mouth
  • Heart and lungs
  • Abdomen and skin
  • Bones and joints
  • Teeth/dental health
  • Blood tests (to establish the health of internal organs and systems)

If you have further questions or want to schedule a wellness exam for your pet, give us a call at 301-330-2200 today!

There’s no getting around it – surgery for our pets is always a little scary, even when the procedure is as simple as a spay or neuter. It’s impossible not to worry about whether or not your best friend is ready and healthy enough for surgery, and, of course, there’s anesthesia and recovery time to consider.

At Montgomery Village Animal Hospital, we’ve made our surgery-suite a worry-free zone. How have we done that? By taking care to keep pet parents informed – and pet patients comfortable and safe – every step of the way, and by offering state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.

Our hospital provides a full range of surgical services ranging from standard spaying and neutering to advanced, highly specialized procedures.

Surgery specialties include:

  • Soft-tissue
  • Orthopedic
  • Dental
  • Ophthalmic
  • Foreign body removal

Patient safety and comfort is our main priority. Our experienced veterinary anesthesiologists provide skilled pain management during and after all surgical procedures, ensuring your pet recovers quickly and with minimum discomfort. We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. Using the most modern equipment, the patient’s vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures.

Our veterinary team will walk you through the entire process, giving you the tools to make informed decisions regarding your pet’s treatment options. We understand surgery is a stressful time for any owner, and we’re available every step of the way to answer questions and put your mind at ease.

If you are considering veterinary surgery for your pet, please call us at (301) 330-2200 to schedule a consultation.

Early detection is key when it comes to treating your pet, and Montgomery Village Animal Hospital offers in-house diagnostics in our on-site laboratory for urgent cases. This saves time and most importantly, you don’t have to wait overnight for results.

Radiology

We employ advanced imaging technologies, guaranteeing the highest quality of care for our patients. Radiology, or X-ray, capability means that your pet gets diagnosed accurately and quickly, leading to better outcomes and faster recovery periods.

Radiographs or X-rays use electromagnetic radiation directed towards the body to highlight objects within. They can detect abnormalities including skeletal fractures, soft tissue damage, foreign bodies, and dental disease.

Ultrasound

We are able to offer, in certain cases, basic veterinary ultrasounds in-house. A non-invasive diagnostic tool, ultrasound is a reliable way to detect illness and measure function of the internal organs.

In the event your pet is suffering from a more complex ailment, we are happy to request the help of a board-certified ultrasonographer, or, if time is of the essence, we can refer you to an outside specialist.

In-House Laboratory

In addition to X-rays, we have the capability to perform various blood screens, pre-anesthetic bloodwork, urinalysis, dermatological analysis, and other types of testing on-site instead of sending samples to an outside lab.

While we do offer an extensive range of on-site testing, it is possible that your pet may need laboratory work beyond our scope. For those cases, we often opt to send blood work or other testing to an outside lab that will then send results back to us.

For more information about our diagnostic suite, give us a call at (301) 330-2200. We’ll be happy to answer any question you might have.

We understand that a pet is part of the family. The day your pet enters our hospital it becomes part of our family, too—and our goal is to give them as many happy, healthy years with you as possible. From new puppies and kittens to graying seniors, we’ll be there every step of the way with comprehensive services and the experienced, compassionate care your pets deserve.
